POSITION: Technology Director/Lead Architect

Summary
St Joseph Media is seeking a senior technical visionary to lead the technology development of it consumer-facing web properties (Torontolife.com, Fashionmagazine.com, Where.ca, Canadianfamily.ca, Weddingbells.ca, Wish.ca) as well other new properties to be developed or integrated into the business.
The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in web-based software development. They will collaborate with the senior management team to create and implement a long range technology plan (application development & infrastructure focus) that will enable the company to dramatically expand its web business portfolio through the launch of innovative products and services.
Responsibilities
- Lead role in web application development and integration of end-user digital products
- Develop and implement standards for development and deployment
- Responsible for analyzing assigned tasks, providing accurate work estimates, and managing own time and that of freelancers/developers to keep development on schedule
- Ensure maintenance of code and system documentation
- Responsible for development, operation, and technology evaluation/procurement to ensure that decisions are consistent with technology plan
Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 10 years + experience developing enterprise-class web-based software applications
- A deep understanding of user experience best practices
- Ability to understand business objectives and translate them into technical design
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment and be adaptable to the demands of all levels and types of production duties
- Knowledge of industry best practices: source control, issue tracking, automated deployment
- Proven knowledge and experience with software development methods including:
- Industry Best Practices such as Agile Development Methodology, Test Driven Development
- HTML/CSS/JavaScript w/ concentration in AJAX (prototype.js)
- Dynamic Languages: PHP/Python/Django
- Application Frameworks: Django
- Clustered MySQL
- Linux/Unix Environment
