Toronto Public Library invites applications for the position of Manager, Web Services.
The Library is re-launching its Web presence and has defined a strategic direction for user experience on all of its Web properties. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a team responsible for services that support e-learning, information literacy, research and reference, and the love of reading, and that draw more than 20 million annual virtual visits. The position is suited to a creative and highly-motivated leader with substantial experience who will lead web services development for the organization, working with a core team of service manager, project managers, visual designers, web interface developers and a technical support team to develop new online services and improve existing Web properties. The position will take a leadership role in developing organizational strategies for the Library's online services and web presence.
You must understand the interdependency between visual design and human interface design and demonstrate a passion for user centred design and innovative technologies. You'll need to be capable of driving and enabling the adoption and use of best practices across the different Web applications/ properties. You should have a complete understanding of the life cycle of a web based product from conception to live delivery and the ability to lead cross-enterprise projects. You will have the ability to work with external agencies and vendors for the development and execution of programs and services. To be successful, you will need to have strong communication skills, be fully conversant in current Internet-based services, and demonstrate commitment to building an excellent user experience that best serves user needs.
