BiblioCommons – Web Developer / User Interface Designer

Responsibilities

BiblioCommons is looking for a Web Developer to work in close collaboration with the User Experience Lead and a team of back-end Java and Database developers. The Web Developer will be responsible for engineering graphical wire-frames into working HTML/DHTML/Javascript and Ajax (with help from the back-end development team). Attention to user-experience, usability and cross-browser HTML are essential.

Requirements

The successful candidate is both an exceptional front-end developer and a visionary designer.

Technical Requirements

  1. 3+ years of professional/full-time development experience
  2. Mastery of HTML, DHTML, CSS and Javascript. The successful candidate should be comfortable hand-coding HTML documents.
  3. Ability to effectively implement an HTML User Interface across multiple browsers
  4. Prior experience with Flash and/or AJAX, an asset
  5. Thorough understanding of emerging front-end technologies and best practices

Design Requirements

  1. GUI and layout design experience
  2. A thorough knowledge of graphics platforms (Photoshop and Illustrator) and their integration into web programming
  3. Demonstrated skill in graphical user interface design, iconography design, colour usage, typography.etc
  4. Extensive knowledge of web design patterns / best practices; an avid user of the read/write web: where it's at; where it's going

BiblioCommons is a dynamic and progressive young Canadian start-up that is rethinking and reshaping the library world by building social networks around North-American public libraries. It is currently under contract from a several Canadian provinces to further build and implement its web-based systems.
