Responsibilities
- Designs and delivers web site structure, creative concept, and visual display for various large scale complex client solutions
Analyzes client-driven requirements and processes to translate informational content into a cohesive user-centric GUI strategy; advises on alternatives and implications of new or revised requirements; recommends optimum approach and develops system design - Takes a leadership role in the GUI development and user experience. Determines all interface coding requirements for site creation including: look and feel, screen layout and elements, navigation, behaviors, widgets and icons
- Develops the GUI documentation; e.g. style guide, storyboards, wireframes and content plan
- Works with the Business Analysts, the technical team and the client to develop the best overall approach for structural content, data elements, and flows
- Participates in Joint Analysis & Design (JAD) sessions with external clients and stakeholders
- Understands and applies the creative development process
- Applies usability and analytical skills to assess web effectiveness, timeliness and accessibility; can employ usability testing techniques to ensure that the chosen approach meet the needs of target audiences
- Codes website using HTML or GUI design software; coordinates with programmers for specialized scripts; posts completed sites to internet server using FTP software
- Develops and designs standards and styles for visual and interface design that ensures usability, accessibility, and coding efficiency consistent with current standards, and trends; uses appropriate tools for web design, authoring and programming to create web pages that are standards-based, highly functional and well-integrated
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of professional web design experience in large-scale enterprise development projects performing above-mentioned or similar duties
- Degree in web graphic design
- Demonstrated proficiency in web design, graphic design, and information architecture; demonstrated experience in information and interface design
- Expertise in current Internet standards, including web browsers and browser specifications
- Hands-on experience with common web development tools and programming; current web design standards, regulations, laws and trends
- In-depth knowledge of one or more current web markup or scripting languages: HTML, XHTML, CSS, Javascript; server-side technologies like JSP an asset
- Ability to learn new Internet and authoring technologies relevant for web site development
- Background with one of the following OSs and familiarity with the others: Windows (ME/2000/XP), Mac, UNIX (Linux) an asset.
- Ability to clearly document all projects and associated development requirements
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of internal team members, developers and support staff
- JAD Session / Facilitation experience with external clients an asset
- Ability to produce highly impressive creative web design in a timely manner; excellent attention to detail
- Able to work independently on projects and also collaborate as a strong team member
- Able to operate under pressure and meet deadlines; flexible and adaptable to change; high-level of problem solving capability so as to devise creative and innovative solutions to complex problems
- Extensive experience with two or more desktop publishing/imaging applications:
- Photo Editing (Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro)
- Drawing (Macromedia Freehand, Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw)
- Page Layout (Adobe PageMaker, Adobe InDesign)
- Presentation (MS Powerpoint, Astound)
- Multimedia (Macromedia Director, Flash, streaming audio and video)
- Others (Adobe Distiller/Exchange, GifBuilder, GifConverter, 3D Studio)
- Usability testing experience ideal
- Experience with Axure Rapid Prototyping ideal
