The Cross Media Division has an immediate opening for a Manager, Web Applications and Systems You will supervise the department, advise on strategic direction, provide technical leadership, recruit and manage suitable vendors, and liaise and work with other departments at Pearson Canada and Pearson worldwide. This position is based out of Don Mills.
Major Responsibilities
- direct, develop and maintain Pearson Canada's websites and internet presence, including consumer and educator sites (for Penguin Group Canada and Pearson Education Canada), company intranet, extranets, online catalogues and ecommerce
- hire and supervise staff for the department, including the Web Architect (Penguin) and Web Architect (Education)
- lead in the development of dynamic web content management strategies
- oversee and advise on data flows and systems that affect Pearson Canada's web presence to achieve best practices
- promote viable and effective architecture and tools for Pearson Canada's websites to appropriate standards of usability, accessibility, and search engine visibility
- help provide technical solutions to the ecommerce goals of Pearson Canada's revenue divisions, working constructively with IT and all stakeholders
- work with production and other groups on developing integrated information and content delivery
- collaborate and communicate with other Pearson development and systems groups as suitable and beneficial
- build effective website traffic and loyalty through customer satisfaction and value
- execute effective and cost-efficient technological and service standards
Qualifications
- diploma or degree in web technologies or digital media with at least 5 years progressive experience as a webmaster, web developer or web content manager
- in-depth knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, Flash
- strong knowledge of web applications and systems, including search engines and traffic analytics
- sound knowledge of database programs and structures
- familiarity with usability, optimization and accessibility best practices
- experience with B2C ecommerce sites
- practice with Cold Fusion an asset
- understanding of SQL, CGI, Perl, DHTML
- knowledge of XML an asset
- adaptable and innovative team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- highly organized and energetic self-starter who will thrive in a fast-paced environment
- demonstrated leadership and project management abilities
