RadialPoint – Technical Writer/User Experience Specialist

Main Responsibilities

The Technical Writer / User Experience Specialist reports to the User Experience Team Lead. The main responsibilities include the following:

  • Participate in User Experience activities as designated by the User Experience Team Lead.
  • Write, edit, review, and maintain, in English, for the following:
    • End-user documentation (online help);
    • technical documentation (functional specifications, release notes, internal configuration guides);
    • user interface texts (dialog boxes, error messages, etc.);
    • web site content; training or presentation materials
  • Test documentation against software for accuracy and ease of understanding
  • Evaluate usability and offer suggestions to improve usability of software design
  • Estimate and provide status on task assignments
  • Interview subject matter experts such as product manager, developers, and tester
  • Assist in the co-ordination of translation (software and end-user documentation
  • Communicate status and effectively report any concerns identified as well as explicitly identify improvements to documentation, software, or User Experience procedures

Required Competencies and Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have:

  • Five years experience as a technical writer
  • University degree in literature, communication or any other relevant field; or certificate in technical communication
  • Excellent command of English (written, spoken), French (spoken)
  • Ability to target documentation to different technical levels (engineers, end-users)
  • Proofreading and editing skills

Technical knowledge

  • Experience with graphical and documentation tools: Microsoft Word, WebWorks, PhotoShop
  • Advanced word processing skills
  • Knowledge of end-user security concepts (firewall, antivirus, antispyware, phishing protection, parental control, etc.)
  • Familiarity with concepts related to the Internet, networking, and Internet applications (email clients, browsers, peer-to-peer, Skype…)
  • Knowledge of Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP
  • Familiarity with source control systems (CVS)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Manual of Style

General Skills

  • Capacity to work fast and effectively, in a high paced environment
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • Love of software

Additional competencies that will be considered assets

  • French (written form)
  • Spanish (verbal and written form)
  • Knowledge of HTML and Web technologies
  • Knowledge of production tools such as Flash, Dreamweaver, RoboHelp, NetObjects Fusion
  • Knowledge of user interface concepts for software design
