Job Description
The Technology Application Group (TAG) is a committed business partner to Scotia Capital, Integrated Support Services and Group Treasury, delivering technology services in three dimensions; business analysis, software development and production management. TAG’s success is based on strong customer focus and a close relationship with each of its’ principle clients. TAG resources are knowledgeable in their fields of expertise and are viewed by the business lines as reliable advisors. The return on investment for TAG’s clients is high quality service customized to their business objectives, delivered in a timely and cost effective manner.
The Web Designer is responsible for supporting all external and internal Scotia Capital websites. The day to day tasks include, building new sites, enhancing sites that need changes or need to be revamped and publishing to the Scotia News Module on the internal Scotia Navigator website. As well, the designer will be involved in rapidly prototyping web based product for all Scotia Capital business lines.
The designer will work closely with the Senior Business Analyst and the Senior Manager.
- Bachelor’s degree plus one to three years experience in Web design and development or an equivalent.
- Combination of relevant education and experience.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing web sites.
- Highly proficient in the use of standard web editing tools such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, and Illustrator.
- Knowledge of current web development techniques using DHTML, PHP, CSS, Javascript.
- Must have an in-depth understanding of HTML and be able to make changes to HTML source code.
- Excellent skills in Web page design and production, multimedia authoring tools, and digital graphics.
- Excellent ability to create and manipulate graphic images.
- Experience incorporating new technologies into Web design.
- Experience in Web site administration.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision is a must.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a productive and cooperative member of a team to accomplish organizational and project goals.
- Familiarity with the use of standard network tools such as telnet and FTP.
The successful candidate:
- Will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing and maintaining dynamic web sites:
- Must be creative and flexible in identifying design solutions to resolve business requirements in a rapidly changing, demanding and complex business environment.
- Must have the ability to learn new software and techniques quickly as technology changes.
- Will be an integral part of the Internal Web team, participating in planning and strategy discussions.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in managing web sites including design and content updates.
- Must be able to write HTML without using a WYSIWYG tool.
- Highly proficient in the use of standard tools such as Dreamweaver (including Dreamweaver Templates), Photoshop, Fireworks, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
- Familiarity with web development techniques such as PHP, CSS, Javascript, DHTML.
- Excellent skills in web design and production, multimedia authoring tools, and digital graphics.
- Knowledge of standard web development tools such as FTP and telnet.
- Experience incorporating new technologies into Web design.
- Knowledge of standard business software such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
- Demonstrated ability in Project Management including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a productive and cooperative member of a team to accomplish organizational and project goals.
- This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications
- Course work or other formal training in art, graphic design or visual interface design.
- Familiarity with building and incorporating plug-in technologies such as Flash, audio, video.
- Familiarity with Financial/Banking industry.
- Bachelor’s degree plus four to five years experience in Web design and development or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
