Running your company on webapps

by davidcrow

Evan Williams discusses running his company (Odeo) on web applications.

  • Project/task management
    • Basecamp

  • Internal information management
    • Jotspot

  • Email
    • GMail

  • Bug tracking/customer email managemnt
    • FogBugz

  • Internal and external mailing lists
    • Google Groups

  • Customer support
    • Kayako

  • Hosting
    • TextDrive

These are all great tools, I have evaluated them for both small and medium sized teams. A lot of organizations can be a little possessive of their information, and due to funding models, a subscription application is more difficult to get approved. But I thought I’d add a few other tools that I find really useful (include a few that are subscription-based).

  • Project/task management
    • TasksPro
    • Basecamp

  • Internal information management
    • Confluence
    • Instiki

  • Bug tracking/customer email management
    • Jira – great J2EE tool and nice integration to Confluence
    • Trac – we’ve been evaluating this wiki, bug tracker and source control
    • FogBugz – hard to argue this is just a fantastic tool

  • Online bookshelf
    • Safari – This is a great service, CodeZoo feels like another really great O’Reilly tool.
