After my post last week about J2EE frameworks, I’ve been looking at other tools and options (again). Matt Raible points me to the Ruby on Rails quick setup video. Damn, that is impressive! After spending all weekend fighting with data objects and PHP, I need to spend more time with Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Matt’s got it right it might not pay the bills, but it looks like I can learn something.
David Heinemeier Hansson used Ruby on Rails to build Basecamp with 37 signals. I am really interested but unfortunately unable to attend the next installment of the Building Basecamp Workshop. Basecamp is one of the most impressive and flexible applications I’ve used, makes me me want to know more about the underlying technologies.
Dave Thomas, co-author of The Pragmatic Programmer, has been using and promoting Ruby. I really need more time, the Pragmatic Bookshelf has been on my list to read but I keep purchasing and reading other books because it will be there for a little while longer.
