Donna Maurer has a great book review site for books on and related to experience design. Bang on reviews of The Social Life of Information and The Human Factor.
It looks like she uses both MoveableType (for her blog) and WordPress (for MaadBooks site). I am thinking about switching from MoveableType to another solution. In the running are:
Owen Winkler provides an excellent blog-ware feature comparison. Switchers include: Jim Rutherford (TextPattern), D. Keith Robinson (WordPress), Mark Pilgram (WordPress), and Owen Winkler (WordPress). Before I make a decision to switch, I need to decide specifically what features and functionality I need.
- Comment spam blocking/IP blocking/throttling
- Multiple blogs
- RSS, RDF, Atom, (and iCal)
- Trackback, Pingback
- RSS Aggregator
- Single UI to manage Plug-Ins and Content, I don’t like having to manage my Amazon books separate from my content in MT
I am going to have to play with WordPress a little more. It looks like the right combination of features and has a sizeable user community. Though I really like the user experience for TextPattern. Only time will tell.
On an unrelated note, I was trying to play an MPEG2 encoded usability video and just couldn’t get it to play on my Windows 2000 box, I downloaded an installed VideoLan VLC Player and everthing worked, like magic.
