CSS and XHTML layouts and designs are extremely powerful, but cross-platform, cross-browser design is still extremely difficult. Netscape/Mozilla/Camino/Firebird is extremely consistent between Mac OS X, Windows 2k and RedHat 7.x. Internet Explorer, yes I don’t like it but 90% of my users use it, is okay, I just wish it had better support for Web Standards. The good news is that absolutely stunning visual design can be accomplished in CSS, for example:
- Cinnamon Interactive BV
- CSS Zen Garden
- StopDesign
- AdaptivePath
- Automatic Labs
- ZLog
- Zeldman
- SilverOrange
- Acts of Volition
- Wired News
I have found some beautiful site, but they are still table driven layouts that could easily be done in CSS and XHTML quickly and easily.
