Visualizations are just coolest interfaces. I love the innovation given the constraints of current hardware, software and interactions, i.e., keyboard and mouse. They don’t relay on any leap-of-faith, like immersive virtual reality, that hardware costs and performance will drive the adoption of technology.
- Dynamap Neat visualization of maps, looks like it uses gyroscopes to detech rotation. I remember some work from PARC that was very similar.
- Panopticon – Great use of treemaps to help make decisions.
- Grokker2 – a way to visualize search results.
- PhotoMesa – Commercialization of Ben Bederson’s great ZUI toolkit and PhotoMesa application.
- Hog Bay Notebook – Not so much visualization, just task perfection.
- Visual Thesaurus – Need to find related words?
