I was looking back at the DIS2002 Closing Plenary by Tom Moran about Adaptive Design. This presentation is absolutely brilliant, and a quick search on Google linked me to the best review I have read about a speaker.
I had never thought of Dr. Moran as a leading thinker in the field of design. He has been a leader in the field of interactive systems and theory but I have never really looked past The Psychology of Human-Computer Interaction (Link to Amazon.ca). This book influenced my early career, research and thinking. And it is amazing how often I turn back to the psychology. Dan Hill provides an excellent summary of how the changing technology has defined the interaction or experience:
Batch systems -> Cognitive perspective
Interactive systems -> Usability perspective
Personal -> GUI
Networked -> Socio-technical
etc.
Embedded -> Experience
I need to spend more time digesting this.
