Leila is speaking tonight at the latest installment of Toronto’s Girl Geek Dinner. Tucows is sponsoring up to 25 students by picking up their tab. This is fantastic. I had talked to Maggie Fox and Sandy Kemsley about doing something similar but I dropped the ball and never delivered. I sadly won’t be able to attend tonight, not only because I haven’t found a “Girl Geek” as my host, but mainly because I’ll be spending time with my geek girls. My sponsorship offer still stands provided I can get to the next Girl Geek Dinner, I will sponsor a table of student geek girls for the event, but someone needs to invite me to participate.
Today, Microsoft announced their internal Women’s Leadership and Development Conference, this is part of the Women at Microsoft program. The conference is only open to Microsoft employees. The program looks fantastic, a great mix of leadership and technical sessions. digigirlz is another MSFT initiative aimed at dispeling stereotypes of the high-tech industry. It’s a program that tries to provide high school girls with opportunities to learn about careers in technology.
Say “arrrrrghh” to Leila tonight for me on this Talk like a Pirate Day for me.
