BubbleShare WordPress Plugin

by david on February 20, 2006

Filename: bubbleshare-plugin.zip
Version: 0.3.1
Last Updated: February 21, 2006
Requirements: WordPress 1.5.x or greater

Usage

Once installed, this plugin allows you to insert BubbleShare mini-galleries (see Random Thoughts of an Echo Tech Entrepreneur for an example) into your posts and pages. Use the following syntax:

[bubbleshare bubbleshare_gallery_unique_identifier]
[bubbleshare http://www.bubbleshare.com/album/5142.57d0b375b2e]

This code will insert an html <iframe type="text/html" ></iframe> that points to the BubbleShare mini-gallery.

Example:

Installation

The downloadable zip file contains 1 file: dcc_bubbleshare.php. Simply follow these instructions to install:

  1. Extract and upload the files to your plugins folder. Remember to tell your file archiver software to use the provided folder names!
  2. Activate the plugin in your WP admin
  3. Create photo galleries using BubbleShare , grab the album identifier from the URI you’ll need this to create a mini gallery.
  4. Create a WordPress post or page with [bubbleshare http://bubbleshare.com/unique_gallery], e.g., [bubbleshare http://www.bubbleshare.com/album/5142.57d0b375b2e] or [bubbleshare bubbleshare_unique_album_identifier], e.g., [bubbleshare 4681.4c3c12e74c4].

Change log

0.3.1 beta – February 21, 2006

  • Thanks to Christopher Quine for catching a mistake in the latest edition of the plugin (it’s an embarassing copy paste error, d’oh).

0.3 beta – February 20, 2006

0.2 beta – December 13, 2005

  • Updated to accept the BubbleShare Album URI that is emailed to users, e.g., http://www.bubbleshare.com/album/5142.57d0b375b2e ,

0.1 alpha – December 9, 2005

  • Released to the wild.
  • It would probably be nice if the plugin would accept the complete BubbleShare Album URI, I’ll do that next.

How is this different than the 'add to blog' button on Bubbleshare?

David Crow December 11, 2005 at 7:44 am

Seth,

It's a pretty brain dead plugin, and not that different than the BubbleShare add to blog however, I hadn't been able to make the work inside wordpress. I see that you have the iframe working inside K2. Did you do anything extra-ordinary to make this render properly?

You rock! =)

Now lets see how we can get wordpress.com (the hosted service) to use it/install it! =)

Hmmmm, I am wondering if I need to improve how URIs are parsed. It feels like this could be used in include a potentially malicious page, but it would have to be included by the author. So it seems like the author that would do bad things, could do them more efficiently than using a WordPress plugin. I don't know.

It would also be great to add a BS button to the WordPress quicktags. Easy enough to do, it's just a timing thing.

I still don't get this bubbleshare value proposition. like so what?? Is it just a Toronto thing? (I'm not bashing & I'm seeking help to understand the business case.)

The BS website is not helping either.

Mitch,

I'm with you, Albert assures me that they have a real revenue model, a real business model and real customers.

hola from T.O. david. stumbled upon your site a few weeks back and return regularly. gdesigner (mainly) here, have recently started my blog. I have two issues with this plug. Firstly, I dont understand what you mean by this 'Remember to tell your file archiver software to use the provided folder names!', and secondly, when i try to activate the plug I get this 'Parse error: parse error, unexpected '

Christopher,

Thanks for catching this, just a sloppy copy paste edit mistake on my part. I've fixed this, if you don't want to download a new copy of the file, you can delete lines 49 and 50 (I believe) or just grab the latest file.

BubbleShare is dead, but there over 20 sites with very similar services offered for free. Some are much better than the deflated bubble.
