I found shopping around once I made the decision to move to the Mac world was helpful. The number of vendors selling the Mac to a growing base of customers (they persuaded me) makes it easier to find a reasonable price point for a MacBook. It also depends on type and nature of the work someone does. It seems the Mac is winning when it comes to interoperability with its other products for mobile computing. Good luck with your purchase. BTW, enjoy following your tweets David. Compelling and insightful.

"New mobile devices and data connectivity allow for distributed solutions"

Technology is indeed very significant in today's world. It makes lives easier and way comfortable. www.CostaRicaHQ.com

You say "It's Incredibly important" but you fail to explain how attempting to tap into new emerging markets is a good idea. Sure Bottled water is a income source for producers. Any idea how long it took and how much money was invested before it turned a profit? How about Cold Coffee in a bottle from factory? A ton of money. Cutting edge markets, if you happen to find one, are a lot of work to turn a profit on.

I try not to buy French keyboard computers generally. It speaks to my shameful lack of a second language.

Check ebay as another option for best of both worlds. You can get some very lightly (or unused) ultralight notebooks at some pretty nice discounts. Done it a few times now.

Just don't get a sony in french.

The dell d430-ish line is nothing pretty to look at but can be had for <$700 on ebay and is cheap, light, capale and wildly better than a netbook.

1.33/1.4 Ghz ULV core 2 duo works, is good, fast enough. 1.6Ghz atom is not.
