There is a new Learning Website with a totally different approach to training and learning. It is called LatitudeU ( www.latitudeu.com ) and it is a completely OPEN learning portal where anyone or any organization can provide knowledge or content on virtually any subject for free or for fees. Less than 6 months old, it already has close to 300 courses and almost 40,000 members from around the world and is growing at an astonishing fast rate.

LatitudeU fills the gap that both Moodle, Blackboard and desire2learn don't or can't. LatitudeU is already working with some of the worlds largest content (training) providers to establish a "retail" Marketplace for training (kind of like the eBay of Training & Learning) and anticipates that there will be thousands of courses available by year end. For more information or to check out the site (Site is FREE as is Membership) just go to www.latitudeu.com .

Thanks for the review David, its refreshingly more in depth than most other recent posts about LearnHub.

Regarding IP and patents, I'd just like to point out that there are lots of different kinds of online projects. Many important sites, like Facebook or Salesforce, are not significant because of their patents, though they may have some now (I don't know).

Others do build great sites around IP, like Leila and Paul should with TinEye. But this is no guarantee of success... neither Riya.com or Pandora.com are doing as well as many hoped (especially compared to flickr.com and last.fm, respectively).

Speaking of Canadian LMS products David, what do you think of the OofT Open Source/OA product ATutor? http://atutor.ca/ The ATRC spun off a dedicated group to develop and maintain it a couple years ago, and they just launched R 1.6.1.

Jeff Fedor reminded me that there was no mention of Desire2Learn as a competitor. I just figured this was a given, since Gosia and Michelle both worked at Desire2Learn. And honestly, I know very little about Desire2Learn, hmmmm, seems like a good project for a future analysis.
