What ever happened to OpenCola?

I remember as an a Canadian expat living in Austin, OpenCola was the talk of the IT and VC magazines because of it’s distributed p2p architecture for search. They seem to have been around as recently as November 2002 , though the last entry in the WayBackMachine is June 22, 2003. There was just about a tech company from Toronto. They seemed to have raised more than $16 Million ($2 Million from Mosaic Venture Partners and $13 Million (led by Battery Ventures)). There has been no mention of any implosion or other dot-bomb revelations. Very strange. Maybe one of the illustrious alumni will tell the full story?

OpenCola sounded very much like Groove or Shared Space. Too bad, but hey, Napster is now Canadian.

After 5 years of spending $13m+ and $0 sales, Battery and Mosaic pulled the plug and sent everybody home. I was one of the development manager who had to lay everybody off the day after x-mas 2002.
