I have spent a couple of days working with Basecamp and I am truly impressed. It is simple and elegant. It is a very straight-forward way to think about projects, milestones and tasks.
I also noticed a number of other tools in reading Macintouch that had released new versions. Here is a list of the other tools I looked at to do my task management/project tracking.
- Basecamp – http://www.basecamphq.com/
- Copper Project – http://www.copperproject.com/
- dotProject – http://www.dotproject.org/
- netOffice – http://netoffice.sourceforge.net/
- Tasks – http://www.alexking.org/index.php?content=software/tasks/content.php
- Taskware – http://taskware.sourceforge.net/
- Projectory – http://projectory.sourceforge.net/
- PMTool – http://www.willuhn.de/projects/pmtool/
I also came across Teamwork.Cubes which looks like a great small business Intranet solution for non-MS platform users. It is out of my price range but it looks great.

I’m fond of dotproject. What was it that you liked most about Basecamp? We needed to do single sign on so we opted for dotproject since it was open. Still, is the Basecamp system giving you better/faster paths to complete tasks?

Hi David,
Thanks for the link to Copper, we’re very happy with the attention we’re getting with the software.
The feedback from our community of customers is the lynch-pin in our development efforts, and we’d invite you back late-March to take a look at our 2.5 major update.

DotProject is a great tool. However, I have been leaning towards Copper Project or Basecamp because of the UI, the support, the product revisions, and all of the other good things with commercial software (not to say that it is better than open source).
I see that Alex King has released a commercial version of his , TasksPro. I love the iCal and RSS integration.
Hi guys!
If possible could please anybody here review my system which is a web based project tracking solution called Easy Project .NET.
From where I stand it’s a bit less complicated than dotproject but on the other end gives just the functionality you require.
