I’m wandering through the Montreal-Trudeau airport this morning at some ungodly hour. And before I’ve managed to caffeinate I see Albert’s face smiling at me on a copy of this months Canadian Business. I open up the magazine to find the article, and starting back at me is Michael McDerment the CEO of FreshBooks.
Congratulations guys. You are both fantastic Toronto success stories. You’ve been a part of TorCamp since the beginning. Without Albert there wouldn’t have been a DemoCamp. Without Mike, we wouldn’t have had one of the best presentations and one of the worst!
“He hosted the first meeting for DemoCamp, a grassroots organization that holds monthly get-togethers where Toronto geeks display their work-in-progress.”
DemoCamp would not have been possible without Albert. The first DemoCamp was an idea that Albert and I had at Fionn MacCools after the first TorCamp as a light-weight way for Toronto’s entrepreneurs, designers and developers to come together on a regular basis and show what they’ve been working on. Albert hosted the event at the Bubbleshare offices. Albert supports this community in a variety of way. He is a rock star.
Albert makes a shout out to other DemoCamp presenters, BumpTop and RMail. It probably means that I should host another DemoCamp in Toronto in the next month or so. It feels like we’ve been saturated with tech, design and entrepreneurship events over the past few weeks. If you are hankering for some good demo action, be sure to check out DemoCampGuelph. I attended the first DemoCamp in Guelph and I’m sure the second will be just as much fun.
